Volition publishes one print issue each fall and spring semester. Pick up your copy in the Student Media office or read the latest edition online.
Volition is George Mason University’s official undergraduate literary and arts journal, publishing original student poetry, prose, photography, visual art, and short screenplays biannually. Celebrating 20 years of creativity at Mason, Volition is a showcase for emerging artists and prides itself on “living life on the edge between boldness and creativity that cannot be found elsewhere on campus.”
As a living complement to their print work, Volition hosts two Open Mic Nights per semester that provide a platform for students with aspirations in the performing arts to share their creations and experience the works of other artists. A popular campus tradition, each open mic event is an eclectic mix of music, spoken word poetry, dance, storytelling, and stand-up comedy. During the annual Fall for the Book festival, Volition hosts a Book Swap table on the North Plaza where anyone who brings a used book can swap for another.
