Volition is George Mason University’s official undergraduate literary and arts journal, publishing original student poetry, prose, photography, visual art, and short screenplays biannually. Celebrating 25+ years of creativity at Mason, Volition is a showcase for emerging artists and prides itself on “living life on the edge between boldness and creativity that cannot be found elsewhere on campus.”

As a living complement to their print work, Volition hosts two Open Mic Nights per semester that provide a platform for students with aspirations in the performing arts to share their creations and experience the works of other artists. A popular campus tradition, each open mic event is an eclectic mix of music, spoken word poetry, dance, storytelling, and stand-up comedy. During the annual Fall for the Book festival, Volition hosts a Book Swap table on the North Plaza where anyone who brings a used book can swap for another.
