Student Media Alumnus Calls Super Bowl LVI

Student Media alumnus Jorge Andres (WGMU Radio, class of 2007) made history earlier this month when he called Super Bowl LVI for Telemundo’s “first over-the-air broadcast” of America’s most-watched annual sporting event.

Andres, 37, who graduated from Mason in 2007 with a BA in communication, got his start at WGMU radio before going on to become an award-winning Telemundo Washington and ESPN anchor (SportsCenter, NBA Tonight, and Baseball Tonight).

“It’s a milestone for me, for sure,” said Andres. “But this isn’t just about me, but as much as it is for so many people who believed in me. I got the opportunity, and I ran with it. Fast forward 15 years and I’m about to call the biggest football game on the planet to a country that is growing leaps and bounds in its Spanish demographics.”

““I hope young people today can relate to me and also pursue any opportunity on their plate,” Andres said. “I’m proof that with hard work, passion and humility, anything is possible.”
